Starting a home improvement project is exciting—but it can also come with a lot of questions.
What happens after the estimate? Who will I be working with? When do materials get ordered? What happens before construction starts? And who do I contact once the project is underway?
At Hutcherson Construction, we believe you shouldn't have to wonder what's happening with your project. That's why we've developed a step-by-step process designed to keep you informed from the first conversation through the final walkthrough—and beyond.
Whether you're planning a new deck, replacing your siding, or completing another exterior home improvement project, here's what you can expect when you work with Team Hutcherson.

Step 1: Contact Us & Schedule Your Free Estimate
Every Hutcherson project starts with a conversation.
Fill out our contact form or give our team a call to tell us a little about your project. We'll gather some basic information and schedule your free, no-obligation estimate.
There's no pressure or commitment. It's simply the first step in determining what you need and how we can help.
Step 2: Meet With a Client Relationship Manager
Next, one of our Client Relationship Managers will meet with you to learn more about your home, project, and goals.
This is your opportunity to tell us what you're envisioning. We'll discuss what you'd like to change, problems you're trying to solve, materials or styles you're interested in, and what's most important to you.
Rather than jumping straight to a quote, we want to understand the project first.
Step 3: Your Design Consultation
Once we've gathered the necessary information, your Client Relationship Manager will develop a plan and return for your Design Consultation.
This is where your project really begins to take shape.
We'll walk you through the proposed project, including the scope of work, materials, project pricing, and renderings when applicable. You'll have an opportunity to ask questions, make selections, and see how we plan to bring your vision to life.
Our goal is for you to understand exactly what you're investing in before moving forward.
Step 4: Sign the Agreement & Get on the Schedule
Ready to make it official?
Once you've approved the project, you'll sign your agreement and provide a small deposit. This allows us to move your project into production and secure your place on our schedule.
From here, your project begins transitioning from planning to construction.
Step 5: Production Handoff
Communication becomes even more important as your project moves from our Client Relationship team to Production.
You'll have a handoff call with a member of our Production team to review your project and confirm the scope of work.
This extra checkpoint helps ensure important information isn't lost during the transition and gives you another opportunity to ask questions before construction begins.
Step 6: Technical Measurements
Measure twice, build once!
Before we get started, a member of our team will visit your property to complete detailed technical measurements.
We'll remeasure the project and review the scope again to make sure the information, dimensions, selections, and expectations are accurate.
It's another layer of quality control designed to catch potential issues before construction begins—not during it.
Step 7: Pre-Construction Meeting
As your start date approaches, you'll meet with your Production Team Lead and Production Manager at your home for a Pre-Construction Meeting.
We'll discuss what you can expect during construction, including material placement, portable restroom placement when applicable, jobsite logistics, access, and the overall plan for completing the work.
By the time construction starts, we want you to know who's working on your project, what to expect, and what the plan looks like.
Step 8: We Get to Work!
Now comes the exciting part.
Our crews get to work transforming the plans, measurements, selections, and renderings into the finished project you've been waiting for.
Whether we're building a new deck, replacing siding, or completing another exterior project, this is where all the planning comes together.
And while this might be where the physical construction happens, it's certainly not where communication stops.
Step 9: Post-Construction Walkthrough & Cleanup
Finishing the construction isn't the same as finishing the project.
Once the work is complete, your Production Lead will complete a final walkthrough with you. Together, we'll review the finished project, answer questions, and make sure the work meets your expectations.
We'll also make sure the jobsite has been thoroughly cleaned.
Our goal is simple: leave your property better than we found it.
Step 10: Brand Ambassador Visit & Warranty Information
Our relationship with you doesn't end when the crew leaves.
After your project is complete, one of our Brand Ambassadors will stop by to check in and hear about your experience.
They'll grab a few photos of the finished project, provide your warranty information, and leave you with a small gift as a thank-you for trusting Hutcherson Construction with your home.
Most importantly, it's another opportunity for us to make sure you're happy with the experience you received.
Why Does Hutcherson Have So Many Steps?
You might look at our process and think: Do we really need ten steps?
We believe we do.
Home improvement projects are a significant investment. Many of the problems homeowners experience with contractors don't necessarily happen because someone doesn't know how to build—they happen because of poor communication, unclear expectations, missed details, or assumptions.
That's why you'll notice several checkpoints throughout the Hutcherson Process.
We measure. Then we measure again.
We confirm the scope. Then we confirm it again.
Your project is intentionally handed from one team to another, with opportunities to communicate along the way.
These aren't unnecessary steps. They're there to help reduce surprises and create a smoother experience for everyone involved.
